City Of Missouri City Texas Selects Klorigen On

Jul 11, 2023

Electrolytic Technologies Corporation (ETC), manufacturer of the Klorigen On-site Chlorine and Sodium Hypochlorite Generators (OSG), announced recently that the Klorigen system selected by Missouri City TX is nearing its final phase of installation at its Bees Passage Road potable water plant.

The Klorigen process is uniquely designed to produce chlorine gas (at or below atmospheric pressure) or high strength sodium hypochlorite or both, simultaneously. The Klorigen system selected by the City of Missouri City will produce 1,200 pounds per day of FAC as 1,200 gallons of sodium hypochlorite at a concentration of 12.5% (125 gpl). In addition, the system will be designed for future expansion to 2,000 ppd per day, either as chlorine gas or sodium hypochlorite.

Missouri City's municipal surface water treatment plant is will be rated for 10 million gallons per (10 MGD) and in addition to chlorination will include on-site solids handling and membrane filtration. Prior to award and procurement, Missouri City's consultants conducted a study to evaluate disinfection alternatives, including receiving bulk sodium hypochlorite in trade strength solution, on-site production of 0.8% and 12.5% sodium hypochlorite solutions, as well as some other technologies. Due to the greater storage requirements and higher operating costs of other processes, the consultants recommended the procurement of the higher strength sodium hypochlorite generator (OSG) offered by Electrolytic Technologies Corporation.

"Missouri City and its consultants' selection process was both extensive and thorough. ETC and their local representative WWaterTech, Inc. are very pleased to be selected for this project," commented ETC's President, Derek Lubie. "The City of Missouri City was seeking a highly reliable, intrinsically safe process that would be compatible with their current operations and capable of growing with their future expansion plans. The size of this Klorigen OSG incorporates all of the features of our larger ten to 20-ton systems, such as state-of-the-art controls and instrumentation."

Klorigen uses high grade salt and utility-supplied water to generate both gas chlorine and liquid sodium hypochlorite at the point of use. Klorigen generated chemicals meet ANSI-NSF Standard 60 requirements and the process has been uniquely designated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a "Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology". Producing water disinfection chemicals on site eliminates the hazards of transport, handling and storage of toxic chemicals. Due to its proprietary salt treatment process and low power consumption, Klorigen has the lowest carbon footprint of any electrochemical process designed exclusively for municipal applications.

About Electrolytic Technologies Corporation:Since 2001, Electrolytic Technologies Corporation a leader in safe water disinfection has been the sole manufacturer of electrochemical systems that produce elemental chlorine gas and high concentration sodium hypochlorite, which are designed exclusively for the municipal water and wastewater industry. Installed Klorigen systems range from 100 ppd to 20 tons per day of equivalent chlorine - either as elemental chlorine gas or sodium hypochlorite up to 15% concentration.
